Frequently Asked Questions
You may not join the Scheme if:
- You or your dependants are already members of another medical scheme
- You are not employed by a participating employer
The Medical Schemes Act does not allow membership of more than one scheme at the same time
On your start date of employment, contact your Human Resources department to request application forms.
Your HR representative will submit the completed forms to Alliance-Midmed for processing.
If your application is successful, you will receive:
- A membership number
- Membership cards
- A welcome letter
Pensioners and dependants
Pensioners and their dependants may remain members of the Scheme if:
- They meet the retirement age requirements (unless early retirement is due to ill health or as per Scheme Rules)
- They have been members of Alliance-Midmed or another medical scheme for at least five consecutive years
Surviving spouses
A surviving spouse may continue membership if:
- They were registered as a dependant at the time of the member’s death
- Their employer does not offer medical scheme membership
- The deceased principal member had been a member of a medical scheme for at least five consecutive years
Membership will end if the surviving spouse remarries.
Pensioners or surviving spouses who wish to continue their membership must notify the Scheme in writing.
