Support may include:

  • Health coaching and education
  • Explaining test results and treatment plans
  • Guidance on medication and healthy lifestyle choices
  • Help setting achievable health goals
  • Ongoing support and progress monitoring

Our nurses are available to support members at the Family Wellness Centre, at the workplace where possible, or over the phone.

Know Your Numbers (KYN)

(Health Risk Assessment)

Knowing your key health numbers can help you identify potential health risks early and take better care of your wellbeing. Regularly check your blood pressure, blood sugar, cholesterol and Body Mass Index (BMI) to stay informed about your health.

Small lifestyle changes can make a meaningful difference. Stay active, choose nutritious foods, avoid smoking, limit alcohol and take your medication as prescribed.

Alliance-Midmed encourages members to complete a health assessment every six months. Book your free health check with the Alliance-Midmed nursing team and record your results in your KYN Passport.

Lifestyle Programme

Small lifestyle changes can make a big difference

The Lifestyle Programme is designed to support members living with chronic conditions such as high blood pressure, diabetes, high cholesterol, asthma, heart conditions, arthritis, and back or joint problems. It helps you take practical steps towards improving your health and reducing your risk of future complications.

Programme Requirements

What you’ll need to do

To get the most from the Lifestyle Programme and remain on the programme, you’ll be asked to take part in the following activities:

You’ll have assessments before, during, and at the end of the programme with a medical practitioner, dietitian, and biokineticist. These help track your progress and ensure you’re receiving the right support.

Attend monthly sessions with a biokineticist to review your progress, receive exercise guidance, and adjust your programme where needed.

Meet with a dietitian for an initial assessment, followed by consultations every 2 to 4 weeks to help you build healthy eating habits.

Attend one weekly weigh-in session at the Family Wellness Centre to monitor your progress and stay motivated.

Commit to your health

The programme works best when you actively participate. By attending your appointments, following your healthcare team’s advice, and making healthy lifestyle choices, you’ll give yourself the best opportunity to achieve lasting results

Newborn & Grandchild Registration

Welcoming a new addition to the family

If you are the main member and have a baby, your newborn can be added to your Alliance-MidMed membership without waiting periods, provided they are registered within 30 days of birth.

What if a dependant on my membership has a baby?

If one of your registered dependants has a baby, the newborn is considered a third-generation dependant (grandchild) and different membership rules apply.

Alliance-Midmed requires every dependant to be directly linked to a principal member. This means that if your child is registered as a dependant on your membership and has a baby, the newborn cannot automatically be added to your membership as another dependant.

Have questions about registering dependants?
Contact our Client Services Team for help understanding the requirements and what documents you’ll need.

Back, Neck and Spinal Programme

Helping you get the right care

This programme supports members who may require back, neck or spinal surgery.

Before surgery is considered, members are assessed against the Scheme’s clinical guidelines to ensure the most appropriate treatment pathway is followed. The programme also confirms that suitable conservative treatment has been completed where appropriate.

It also supports members experiencing ongoing or recurring lower back pain, helping them access the right care as early as possible.

Non-specific lower back pain refers to pain, stiffness or discomfort where there is no single identifiable cause. Symptoms may involve the joints, discs, muscles or other soft tissues in the lower back.

For more information, please contact 0860 002 101, option 3 or auths@alliancemidmed.co.za.

Oncology (Cancer)

Supporting you throughout your cancer journey

A cancer diagnosis can bring many questions and uncertainties. The Alliance-Midmed Oncology Management Programme is designed to support you and your family throughout your cancer journey, while helping you access the appropriate care and treatment.

The programme provides multidisciplinary care and support across the different stages of cancer care, including:

  • Prevention and early detection

  • Treatment and ongoing care
  • Member education and wellness support

Alliance-Midmed Professional Nurses are available throughout your cancer journey to provide guidance and support to you and your family.

If your doctor suspects that you may have cancer, further tests will usually be required to confirm the diagnosis. These may include blood tests, tissue sampling, scans and other investigations.

Once your diagnosis has been confirmed and you are preparing to start treatment, please contact the Alliance-Midmed Professional Nurses. This allows us to assist you with registration on the Oncology Management Programme and provide support throughout your treatment.

Alliance-Midmed works with a specialist oncology manager who coordinates your detailed treatment plan with your treating specialist.

For Medical Oncology, the Scheme follows the relevant guidelines and protocols of the Independent Clinical Oncology Network (ICON).

The following oncology services and treatments require pre-authorisation from the Scheme:

  • Chemotherapy
  • Radiotherapy
  • Adjuvant therapy
  • Oncology-related investigations
  • Hormone inhibitors

Once you have successfully registered on the programme, the Scheme will fund the associated costs according to your agreed treatment plan and applicable Scheme rules.

Once you are registered on the Oncology Management Programme, approved oncology treatment is covered according to your agreed treatment plan and the applicable Scheme Rules, clinical protocols and benefit guidelines.

Oncology benefits may also be subject to Prescribed Minimum Benefit (PMB) requirements and the Scheme’s relevant managed care programmes.
